Medicare pays for very few people who are in nursing facilities. Medicare will pay for the first 20 days at 100 percent if certain criteria is met:
- The beneficiary is being admitted to a nursing facility (Medicare-certified bed) within 30 days of being hospitalized for at least three consecutive days and;
- The person requires the services of a skilled professional daily. Medicare will continue to pay for days 21-100 as long as the above criteria continues to be met. In addition, there will be a daily co-payment that you will be responsible for, or you may use supplemental insurance to pay for this amount.
